Writing with Deborah

The course

How it works

A course that takes you from no idea at all to a finished draft of 80,000 words.

I

Prep week

Seven days to go from nothing to a story you’re excited to write. We’ll find your idea, your main characters, what they want and what’s standing in their way, then sketch out the shape of your book so you know where it’s going.

II

160 writing days

Every day you watch an intro video, write your 500 words and finish with an outro video. Keep that up for 160 days and you’ll have a full draft of 80,000 words.

III

Two weeks of editing

Once your draft is finished, I’ll show you how to edit it, from the big questions about plot and character down to polishing your sentences line by line.

What a day looks like

  1. 01

    Intro video

Each day opens with a video from me. I’ll tell you where you are in your book, what that part of a story needs to do and what you could write today, with examples of how published books handle the same moment.

  2. 02

    Your 500 words

Then you write your 500 words. It’s an amount you can fit around work and family and day by day it adds up to a whole book.

  3. 03

    Outro video

An outro video closes the day, with a few thoughts on what you’ve just written and a look at what’s coming tomorrow.

Finish the course and get notes from me

If you stay with the course to the end, I’ll read your first three chapters and send you my notes on them.

You’ll also get notes on the pages you need for whatever comes next: your query letter and synopsis if you’re sending your book to agents or your blurb if you’re self publishing.
